My friend Begina posted some really funny pictures a few days ago of her daughter learning to sleep in a "big girl bed" and some of the funny positions they found her in while sound asleep. That brought back some memories of our girls learning to stay in one place in their beds too. I went back and pulled this pictures for some laughs....
Here is the "bed" that Logan slept in for several months while we were transitioning her from the crib to a regular bed. This cot kind of cradled her, so she did not fall out. It was also very close to the ground, so even if she did fall out it would not hurt her. She actually slept really well here, but we felt bad that she was sleeping on a cot and not a real bed.
While Logan was sleeping on the cot, Lucy was still sleeping in her crib, which she really loved. We probably could have kept her there forever, and she would have been happy. Attempting to crawl out of the crib was never a problem with Lucy!
But all babies have to graduate from the crib to a real bed....so Hoy build this bed for Lucy in the Spring of 2009. When he told me that he wanted to build her a bed from scratch, I was a little worried about how sturdy it would be AND how it would look. I was so impressed with his finished product, and I hope it is very special to her as she grows up.
Once Hoy got Lucy's bed finished, we moved the girls into the same room because many nights we would find Logan on the floor in Lucy's room asleep because she just wanted to be near her. When they would go to bed, they would talk to each other down the hallway. We decided that if they wanted to be together, we would not stop that!! Here they are the first night we set their beds up together, and they were SO excited!! This was in June 2009, so Logan was about to turn 3 and Lucy was about to turn 2.
Lucy propped up in her bed like a big girl.
Sometimes having their beds in the same room is still not enough...they want to be in the same bed!! I realize this will not always be the case, but as long as they are this close and want to be together we will keep them together!
Here's sweet Logan relaxing her bed. This was a bed that I'm sure I slept in at one time, that we pulled out of the attic at my grand-mother's house, and Hoy sanded and repainted for Logan. Both beds are full-sized beds, but we have them very close to the ground so they will not get hurt if they fall out. We did not put a box spring under the mattress, which keeps it lower to the ground also.
The first night Lucy slept in her "big girl bed" in June 2009, she stayed there all night long. When we got up the next morning and went into their room to check on them, at first we could not find Lucy. For about 20 seconds my heart was racing and I was scarred to death....but then I looked down and saw this little foot!!
At some point during the night, Lucy had apparently fallen onto the floor and worked her way up under the bed. She was sound asleep. Thank goodness it was summer time, so she stayed pretty warm!! She did this one other time a few days later, and since then she has done great!

I am completely impressed that Hoy built her a bed. How sweet, she will treasure it forever. I hope Griffin and Gavin enjoying sharing a room as much as your girls do ;)
I love this post! I think it is so neat that the girls love being around each other. You know the quote from the movie Little Women, "I could never love anyone as I love my sister." My sister and I always say that is so true. Lucy under the bed is adorable!!! How funny. I'm more impressed that you don't have things stored under there!!! ;)
Such sweet pictures. I love that they want to sleep together and it brought back memories of me and my little sister. Tell Hoy he is getting lots of praise for his handywork!
